Find Lost Superannuation
There are over 4.3 million ordinary Australians who need to find lost superannuation of which most of them are unaware that they own a stake in the incredible $7.3 billion dollars of unclaimed superannuation. Step 1 - To find lost superannuation contact the ATO
Complete a search at the ATO or you can contact them directly 13 28 65. Note: You will need your Tax File Number to complete the search.
Step 2 - Other places to find lost superannuation
Search the State Lost Monies Registers and ASIC:
• NSW – The Public Trustee of NSW - Unclaimed Monies Search
• QLD – The Public Trustee of QLD - Unclaimed Monies Search
• VIC – The State Trustees of Victoria - Unclaimed Monies Search
• WA – The Public Trustee of Western Australia - Unclaimed Monies Search
• ACT - The Public Trustee of Australian Capital Territory - Unclaimed Monies Search
• TAS – The Public Trustee of Tasmania - Unclaimed Monies Search
• SA - The Department of Treasury & Finance South Australia (08) 8226 3601
• ASIC – Australian Securities and Investments Commission ASIC - Unclaimed Monies Search
Step 3 - Find lost superannuation in industry funds
Search any Industry Superanuation Funds: You may need to do some investigation to find out which fund was relevant to your industry for example. Host Plus is an industry Superannuation Fund for hospitality and tourism industry employees. You will need to contact them directly and ask them to conduct a search on their system for any accounts they may have in your name.
Step 4 - Find lost superannuation with previous employers
Previous Employers: Failing all this the next step is to contact any of your previous employers and ask them which superannuation fund they contributed your monies into. For further information on Employer obligations and superannuation go to: www.ato.gov.au/super.
